Project Overview
SKCE provided construction-stage structural engineering services for the demolition of the 80-year-old Kemp Street vehicle bridge in Junee, NSW, as part of the Inland Rail project.
The works involved the removal of approximately 100 tonnes of steel and 375 tonnes of concrete during a tightly controlled 70-hour rail track possession. The existing bridge was removed to make way for a new structure designed to provide the clearance required for double-stacked freight trains.
SKCE provided design, peer review and on-site engineering support to help safely coordinate the complex demolition works within the restricted rail possession period.

Value to the Client
Working within the constraints of a 70-hour rail possession required responsive engineering support and close coordination throughout the demolition.
SKCE assessed lifting requirements, temporary crane loads and existing bridge elements before and during the works, while providing on-site certification and rapid responses to design variations as conditions evolved.
This construction-stage support helped the project team safely manage the removal of the existing bridge within the limited possession window, enabling the next stage of the Inland Rail infrastructure upgrade in Junee.
